Protect the elegance of your silver accessories with regular and gentle upkeep.

CLEANING
Clean your silver jewellery and accessories using a mild soap and lukewarm water solution. Pure soap is most effective. Gently dry each piece with a soft, lint-free cloth. For more stubborn residues, a soft-bristled toothbrush may be used.
It is essential to dry silver items thoroughly following any rinsing, as water—particularly if it contains chlorine—can cause discolouration.
After cleaning and drying, gently polish the items with a soft, lint-free cloth or fine sponges only. Clean using a gentle, circular motion to preserve the surface finish.
This will help maintain their lustre and reduce the frequency of more intensive cleanings.
Considerations for Larger Silver Objects
For larger silver items, use products specifically formulated for silver cleaning. Avoid general household cleaners, as their chemical compositions may be unsuitable and potentially damaging to silver.
When cleaning such items, it is advisable to tape over any hallmarks to prevent wear. The integrity of hallmarks is important and can affect the item's value over time.

TARNISH REMOVAL
Tarnishing occurs when silver reacts with chemicals in the air, notably sulphur. To remove tarnish, line a pot with aluminium cooking foil, and add baking soda along with hot (but not boiling) water. Submerge the silver items in the solution, ensuring that each piece maintains direct contact with the aluminium. Leave the items in the solution until the tarnish is removed—this should take only a short time.

STORAGE
Store silver items in a cool, dry environment wherever possible. Wrapping each piece in soft felt or cloth will help prevent scratches and minimise tarnishing. Tarnish-preventive bags can be particularly effective, especially in humid or corrosive climates.
Turnbull & Asser cufflinks are presented in their own storage boxes, which are ideal for keeping the items protected when not in use.
