At Turnbull & Asser, we use the finest cottons, underscoring the importance of proper care to maintain their enduring elegance.

Washing Washing

Washing

Before washing any of your cotton garments, we recommend referring to the care label sewn on the inside. This will provide general washing guidelines. While machine washing is usually recommended for most cotton products, specific cotton items, such as trousers or blazers, may require dry cleaning. Mixed textiles, such as cotton and silk or cotton and linen, may also have different washing instructions.

Given that cotton is a fabric frequently laundered, choosing a good-quality detergent can help preserve the longevity of your cotton garments.

Drying Drying

Drying

To preserve the shape of cotton garments, air drying is the preferred method. After washing, give the clothes a gentle shake when removing them from the washing machine; this will help maintain their structure. Since cotton naturally shrinks slightly during the drying process, we recommend avoiding tumble drying. This may lead to fabric damage, excessive shrinkage and accelerated wear and tear. Shirts and trousers should ideally be dried on hangers to retain their fit and away from direct sunlight to avoid fabric discolouration.

Ironing Ironing

Ironing

High-quality cotton typically requires a medium to high heat setting. To achieve the best results when ironing your cotton shirt and other garments, we recommend always selecting the setting designated for cotton.

For a detailed guide on how to iron your Turnbull & Asser shirt, please refer to our shirt care guide.

After ironing, it is advisable to hang the garment immediately to prevent the formation of new wrinkles.

Storage Storage

Storage

Store cotton garments in a cool, dry environment, away from direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure may lead to fabric discolouration.

Avoid the use of wire hangers; instead, opt for padded or broad wooden hangers to maintain the shape of the shoulders. Other cotton garments, such as polo shirts or t-shirts, can be neatly folded after being ironed.

STAIN TREATMENT STAIN TREATMENT

STAIN TREATMENT

It is essential to act promptly when dealing with stains on cotton garments. Begin by gently blotting the stain with a clean cloth to prevent it from spreading. It is recommended to use natural solutions, such as a baking soda paste, a mixture of white vinegar and water, or lemon juice. Alternatively, a mild detergent may also be effective in removing the stain. It is advisable to avoid harsh chemicals, such as all forms of bleach, as their use may damage the fabric.

For optimal results, hand spot clean the stain before laundering the entire garment in the washing machine. Stubborn stains may necessitate professional dry cleaning. Please note that certain types of stains may require specialised treatments or the use of professional dry cleaning for specific garments.
