Linen is a natural and sustainable fabric, making it ideal for warmer weather due to its exceptional coolness and breathability. The delicate elegance this fabric brings to any attire requires proper care to maintain its lasting quality.

Washing Washing

Washing

Before washing any of your linen garments, we recommend referring to the care label sewn on the inside. This will provide general washing guidelines. It is advisable to use a gentle, non-bleach detergent and wash linen on a cold temperature cycle. Indeed, heat can diminish linen’s natural lustre. To preserve the fabric over time, it is recommended to machine wash at 30°C or, for spot treatment, to hand wash the garment. For coloured garments, turn them inside out before washing to protect the fabric's outer surface.

Please note that fabric softeners should be avoided when washing linen, as the fabric softens naturally over time. Never use bleach or detergent with whitening agents, as these can damage the fibres, even for white linen items.

Drying Drying

Drying

One of the finest qualities of linen is its rapid drying time – a significant advantage for travel and warm weather wear. However, we advise avoiding the tumble dryer to preserve its shape and softness. After washing, gently shake the garment to remove excess water and lightly pull on the sleeves, plackets, and side seams to ease out any creases.

When air drying linen, it is generally recommended to hang it upside down to minimise wrinkles and prevent stretching, especially for items such as shirts and trousers. This allows the weight of the fabric to hang naturally and reduce creasing.

Ironing Ironing

Ironing

Linen is a fabric naturally prone to creasing when worn. For optimal results when ironing, such garments should be pressed while still slightly damp. If the fabric is completely dry, it is advisable to lightly mist it with water before pressing.

A medium to high heat setting is recommended to ensure all wrinkles are removed. All linen garments should be ironed inside out to prevent shine or fading, particularly for darker coloured items. The steam setting on the iron can help in relaxing the fibres and smoothing out creases more efficiently during this process.

Steaming is also an effective alternative; the heat and moisture will relax the fibres, restoring a crisp yet natural appearance without direct contact from an iron.

Storage Storage

Storage

Store linen garments in a cool, dry environment, away from direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure may lead to fabric discolouration.

Avoid the use of wire hangers; instead, opt for padded or broad wooden hangers to maintain the shape of the shoulders.

STAIN TREATMENT STAIN TREATMENT

STAIN TREATMENT

It is essential to act promptly when dealing with stains on linen garments. Begin by gently blotting the stain with a clean cloth, without rubbing the fabric, to prevent it from spreading. It is recommended to use natural solutions or a mild detergent to effectively remove the stain.

It is advisable to avoid harsh chemicals, such as all forms of bleach, as their use may damage the fabric.

For optimal results, hand spot clean the stain before laundering the entire garment in the washing machine. Stubborn stains may necessitate professional dry cleaning.
