T&A IN FILM: AN INTERVIEW WITH ARIANNE PHILLIPS

When it comes to costume design in film, few names carry as much weight and prestige as Ms. Arianne Phillips. Not only has the BAFTA and Oscar-nominated costume designer worked on some of the biggest films to date, she rose to fame as the stylist for both Madonna and Lenny Kravitz.


Following our recent collaborations in Kingsman and English National Opera’s Marnie, we sat down with Ms. Phillips during her time in London to talk a little more about styling, costume design, and why Turnbull & Asser is her shirtmaker of choice.

The process of costume design is one of creativity, accuracy and character. Ms. Phillips takes us through the step-by-step process of costume designing for film:



We began working with Ms. Arianne Phillips on Kingsman, and Kingsman II: The Golden Circle. Here, she discusses what it was like designing for Kingsman, and how Turnbull & Asser came into the picture.



Our most recent collaboration, and first with Ms. Phillips away from the silver screen, came in the form of English National Opera’s Marnie. She discuss the subtle nuances of opera and the history behind the Turnbull & Asser shirt.
