Our Sustainable Lyocell
Lyocell fibres have gained a commendable reputation for their environmentally responsible closed loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into cellulosic fibres with high resource efficiency and low environmental impact.
Turnbull & Asser customers can purchase lyocell shirts with the assurance that their choices are not contributing to an adverse impact on the environment.
The traits of lyocell fibres include great strength, efficient moisture absorption and gentleness on the skin - making it an ideal fabric for summer temperatures. With that in mind, we’ve created our lyocell shirts in a new holiday fit which features short sleeves, a chest pocket and the popular revere (or camp) collar. “First conceived as leisurewear in the mid-20th century, the revere collar shirt is as versatile as it gets,” says Charlie Thomas of FashionBeans. “It works with a t-shirt and chore coat in colder weather, with swim shorts by the pool, under a relaxed two-piece suit, or simply with tapered chinos and penny loafers for a stroll about town. It’s a do-anything, go-anywhere style.”
"Lyocell is woven from cellulose fibres sourced ethically from South Africa’s eucalyptus forests, so while it’s a modern man-made fibre, its origins are entirely natural and it’s 100 per cent biodegradable, too."
With sustainability being a core value for us, we have introduced the lyocell fabric into our permanent range as part of our first steps to lowering our environmental footprint and developing our ethical production. In turn, we aim to provide our customers with more choice in regards to sustainable, long-term clothing, broadening our range beyond cotton for this longevity.
