UNDERSTANDING OUR SHIRTS
Each of our signature shirts is devotedly handmade in our factory just outside of Gloucester, England. Shirtmakers of over 135 years, our talented team of pattern cutters and machinists, with skills passed down through generations, each contribute their honed skills to craft the perfect shirt. Meticulously constructed using the finest materials and with our trademark features, a Turnbull shirt is unmatched in excellence.
A classic Turnbull shirt is made up of 33 individual hand-cut pieces of the highest quality cloth finished with a secure series of iridescent ethically sourced mother-of-pearl buttons. Our shirts are conspicuously recognised for their non-fused collars, split yokes, and pentagonal reinforced gussets, each detail has been honed to ensure the finished product is unrivalled in its category.
Framing the face, a collar is undoubtedly one of our shirt’s essential features. From the signature T&A collar to our contemporary Kent collar and the new Turnbull collar on the Westminster and Windsor shirts, each collar is crafted with a woven, bias-cut interlining for a more organic structure. We rely on superior materials, construction and craftsmanship to maintain the collar’s shape, resulting in a finished shirt that offers greater comfort when worn.
Our shirts offer a vast range of cuff choices. Designed to be worn with cufflinks, Double Cuffs are a formal style exclusively sewn with holes 1”/ 2.5cm from the edge. Our signature three-button barrel cuffs are a subtle sign of refinement, recognised by our distinguished clientele. In our buttons, we forgo flimsy plastic buttons in favour of deep-shell Australian mother-of-pearl from ecologically sustained sources. Each button is sewn on with strong crossed-lock stitching to preclude any possibility of detachment.
Quality fabric, impeccable cut, and exceptional craftsmanship are fundamental to instilling confidence in the fit of the shirt. Our classic Regular fit provides a touch more room, whereas the Tailored fit is ideal for those who prefer a slimmer profile. For a more relaxed appearance, our Weekend and Holiday fit shirts feature straight side seams and are designed to be worn untucked, should you wish.
Made to Measure
A natural step up from ready-to-wear, our Made to Measure shirts are crafted using a standard-sized base pattern. This foundation allows for alterations to be made according to your individual taste and specifications. You have the flexibility to adjust certain aspects of the shirt to achieve a more personalised and distinct fit and style compared to ready-to-wear options.
BESPOKE
The pinnacle of our tailoring service is our Bespoke offering, where each design is a completely unique creation made exclusively for you. This process involves the creation of an entirely new pattern based on your precise measurements and preferences. With access to an extensive selection of over 1,000 fabrics, 25 collar and cuff options, 20 monogram styles, and various collar linings, your bespoke shirt is limited only by your imagination. Following its creation, your unique pattern will be archived alongside those of our valued clients, ensuring its availability for future orders.
